Joshua H. Chefec, CFA, is a commercial banking executive, finance strategist, and corporate leader based in New York City. Over the course of his career, he has developed expertise across middle-market banking, private capital, structured finance, and commercial growth strategy, earning recognition for his ability to build relationships, lead teams, and navigate complex financial environments.
Joshua grew up in Great Neck, New York, on Long Island, in a competitive and academically driven environment that helped shape his ambition and work ethic early in life. His father’s legal background introduced him to professional discipline and analytical thinking, while his involvement in music and athletics developed his ability to perform under pressure. As a clarinetist, Joshua achieved all-county and first-chair honors and performed multiple times at Carnegie Hall in both solo and orchestral settings. He also played soccer, lacrosse, basketball, and tennis, experiences that reinforced teamwork, discipline, and resilience.
Joshua attended Tulane University’s A.B. Freeman School of Business, graduating cum laude in 2012 with a Bachelor of Science in Management focused on Finance. He completed the degree in only three years after entering college with 29 AP credits earned during high school. In 2018, he became a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) Charterholder and later obtained FINRA Series 79 and 63 licenses.
He began building his finance career while still in college, working within wealth management offices in New Orleans before securing an internship with J.P. Morgan’s Asset & Wealth Management division. Following graduation, he joined FGI Capital, where he focused on middle-market debt advisory and capital structuring transactions involving leveraged buyouts, recapitalizations, and turnaround situations. He later moved to ExpoCredit, where he established the company’s first New York City business development office and led transaction sourcing and execution efforts.
Joshua subsequently joined LSQ as Vice President, managing business development across New York while cultivating partnerships with private equity firms, banks, debt advisors, and consulting firms. His experience across specialty finance and asset-based lending helped position him for his return to JPMorgan Chase in 2018 as a Vice President in Commercial Banking.
During his tenure at JPMorgan Chase, Joshua focused on advising middle-market companies across industries including consumer and retail, manufacturing, professional services, sports, entertainment, and insurance. Between 2020 and 2022, he generated more than $9.5 million in new revenue and onboarded numerous commercial banking relationships, earning “Club Elite” recognition in 2022 as one of the firm’s top-performing bankers nationwide.
In 2023, Joshua was promoted to Executive Director and Market Executive following a rigorous 360-degree review process. In this leadership role, he co-led a team of nearly 30 commercial bankers responsible for an $85 million annual revenue business serving more than 750 clients throughout Metro New York. He oversaw client strategy, talent development, credit review, and partnerships with private equity, investment banking, syndicated finance, and family office groups. Under his leadership, the market became one of the top-performing teams nationwide within the segment.
In 2026, Joshua joined KeyBank as Commercial Leader for New York City, where he focuses on scaling the bank’s middle-market and mid-corporate banking presence within the region.
Outside of banking, Joshua is actively involved in mentorship, diversity initiatives, and financial education programs. He has volunteered with W!SE, supporting economic mobility and financial literacy programs, and co-chaired the Tri-State Working Families Network Business Resource Group at JPMorgan Chase. His personal interests include skiing, scuba diving, tennis, cooking, travel, guitar, clarinet, and staying physically active.
Joshua’s leadership philosophy centers on integrity, relationship-building, thoughtful decision-making, and continuous personal growth. He believes success is measured not only by professional achievement, but also by balance, resilience, and the ability to positively impact the people around him.
